The "Rock Band 4" song list is revealed as "top-tier" by Harmonix's Chief Creative Officer and co-founder, Alex Rigopulos.
"The budget that we've allocated for the title supports a top-tier soundtrack," Rigopulos told IGN, saying that the selection strategy for the "Rock Band 4" song list is "one aspect of the experience that we're not aiming to change."
One concern related to the selection of songs is the instruments that players will need to use to play them. With backwards compatibility, old guitars and drums can still be used as "Rock Band 4" instruments since both the Xbox One and PS4 used different wireless controller communication protocols than their predecessors.
Alex Rigopulos was asked about the game's DLC and whether fans can expect weekly additions to the "Rock Band 4" song list.
"I think that the weekly model did work very well for us last time around," Harmonix's Chief Creative Officer admitted.
"It's certainly our plan to have a steady, ongoing series of DLC releases indefinitely after the release of the core title. Whether the weekly rhythm is the correct rhythm or not, I don't know that's set yet."
"Rock Band 4" will run on a new game engine at 1080p and 60 fps. While it is more attractive than ever, especially in the lighting department, the game still has the same lighthearted style and feel.
It will be instantly compatible with previous "Rock Band" songs. However, Harmonix wants players to add their personal touch on the tracks.
"Personal expression is one of those areas where, when you're playing a song, regardless of one of those areas, whether you're playing in your parent's garage, or playing on a giant stage at Madison Square Garden, the music doesn't happen unless you play it," Daniel Sussman, the game's Product Manager, said.
"And giving people that sense of ownership of the song is really important, and it's a huge part of the fantasy, and it's one of the things you want to do as the spotlight's on you. It's your moment to do something, and it's not just about execution, it's about expression."
