“Empire” season 2 will be hitting the small screen later this year, and Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon, has revealed that another member of the Lyon family will be the boss of the company. And, according to his statement, this new leader will be “very passionate.”

“He is going to lead with his heart,” Smollett told The Hollywood Reporter. “Sometimes, that is going to get him in trouble.”

The show’s first season was more focused on finding out “who will inherit the throne,” as pointed out by show runner Ilene Chaiken. Now, though, the second season will focus more on “warring kingdoms.”

In the end of “Empire” season 1, the former CEO of Empire Records, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, was imprisoned and Jamal was put in charge. Although a new boss has already been named, the battle for ultimate control of the recording company is just getting started.

Taraji Henson, who plays the role of Cookie Lyon, the interestingly explosive ex-wife of Lucious, will be one of the show’s characters who will be fighting the hardest.

“She is getting back to what she did when she built the empire,” revealed Chaiken. Apart from having to deal with the issues within the company, Cookie will also reportedly have “two new love interests.”

“Empire” turned out to be such a huge blockbuster TV show, that a second season was already promised before the show’s second episode had even aired, according to Screen Rant. TV Line has just recently confirmed that season 2 has now been slated for a September 23 release date.

Henson seemed to have jumped the gun and told all of her fans and followers on Twitter that “Empire” season 2 now has a release date. The confirmation from the show’s official Twitter account came shortly after.
