Adam Lambert’s new album, “The Original High,” seems to have been inspired by his time touring with famous British rock band, Queen. He had recently told Toronto Sun that “performing in front of people is the best drug in the world.”
For the past several years, the former “American Idol” candidate has actually been singing as the new front man for Queen. He was filling in for Freddie Mercury.
“It is interesting, though,” Lambert said when he appeared on Radio.com, according to Blabbermouth. “I have heard people say, ‘Oh, you are the new lead singer for Queen.’ It is, like, well, essentially, yeah. But, it is not a permanent position. I do not look at it as it was billed as Queen + Adam Lambert. I feel like it is a collaboration – a live collaboration.”
Apparently, singing for Queen was something that he and the rest of the band have been pondering on “for three months.” “We had a great time together,” he added. “The audience ate it up, which was great. We sold out, which was great. But, it is a collaboration.”
Although he is loving what he is doing for the band right now – especially as it has served as the inspiration for Adam Lambert’s new album – it was not always that way, particularly during the first few times that he performed with the rest of the band.
“I do not think I was totally comfortable with the idea,” he added. “I think I was still, really, in my head, kind of intimidated by the whole concept of singing lead for this amazing band.”
He only started to feel less intimidated about performing with Queen “the second time around.”
“Something had shifted,” he said. “I do not really know why or how, but something had shifted and I felt a lot more. I accepted the responsibility at that point. It was more an I-can-do-this attitude than I ever had with it. Confidence makes a big difference.”
