Is Pepsi creating a brand-new eccentric flavor of Mountain Dew?

The rumor came about when a Reddit user called joes_nipples (whose real name is actually Steve Barnes) posted a single image of a less-orange liquid in a plastic cup. Remember that a classic Mountain Dew has a light green color.

He shared the photo on Friday, November 7, and currently, it already has over 200 comments from other Reddit users.

According to him, a Mountain Dew crew had been handing out these samples in Kent State University, where Barnes is studying as a freshman. The banner attached to the booth simply said Mountain Dew Dewitos, which meant that the students were actually drinking a Dew with a Dorito flavor.

Although it sounds very quirky, and something that is not going to be appreciated by many, it is possible that Pepsi, the company behind Doritos and Mountain Dew, wanted to provide convenience to avid snackers. Drinking it is like eating Doritos too.

True enough, despite having a strange taste, perhaps because no one has really tried drinking something that is cheesy or Dorito-ish, Barnes commented that the drink was not really disgusting.

Nevertheless, many questioned on the authenticity of this gimmick or the possible plan of Pepsi to really come up with the drink. Barnes, on the other hand, believed that it was legitimate, since students who drank the odd drink filled out an electronic survey.

It is also possible that the company was simply doing a market research since Barnes and other students also got to try out other flavors such as rainbow sherbet.

CNET, who also published a story about the Reddit post, e-mailed Pepsi and received a reply, saying that the company is indeed trying to test different flavors and allowing their fans to choose which one they prefer.

As for the massive calories per drink, we aren't still sure, but know that a 1.07 oz of Dorito already has 262 calories while 12 oz Mountain Dew has 170.
