"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" PS-exclusive content and other new details about the online mode in the game have been revealed.
"This should give you an idea about the game's energy; the footage contains pros and some of our hidden characters, sick tricks and combos, and a bunch of online multiplayer action," Robomodo president Josh Tsui wrote on the PlayStation blog.
First off, online multiplayer will be different with "Pro Skater 5" than the previous games. The Freeskate levels now serve as lobbies for up to 20 players. They will act like hubs where players can hang out and skate between different missions and online matches.
The sessions will now be hosted by dedicated servers. Players can now drop in and out of populated Freeskate sessions at any time. Players can also jump into a mission with their party or challenge other players in one of the competitive multiplayer modes which is done from the Sessions menu.
The Sessions menu is a multipurpose tool for queuing up missions or modes, managing the player's party as well as checking who is in the park. Tsui revealed that Tony Hawk's "Pro Skater 5" is designed to get players online quickly and easily.
Online features are only available for the PS4 version. Tony Hawk's "Pro Skater 5" PS-exclusive content will be three character heads from Sony's games: Ratchet, Sweet Tooth and Sackboy. Preorder exclusives from retailers have also been confirmed. The game will be available for PS4 on Sep. 29.
Players can complete missions, unlock new content and level up online or offline in the game. They can also battle against others in competitive matches and play with 20 people at once. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are expected to be released by the end of the year.
The skateboarding video game is being developed by Robomodo and Disruptive Games. It will be published by Activision.
