For a number of consumers, Honest Company may not be entirely "honest" after all. This is after they got burned marks despite using the SPF30 sunscreen.

The company has been receiving a lot of heat recently after several negative reviews of their sunscreen product were discovered in social media such as Twitter and in their Amazon page.

The reviews were varied, from the "horrible" texture of the lotion to the difficulty of washing it off because of its thickness. One of the biggest concerns, however, is sunburn. USA Today reports the case of Illinois native Gretta Stabler whose child developed sunburns in many areas of the body despite applying the lotion more than 3 times in 3 hours.

The Honest Company had since issued an official statement through People on Tuesday, August 2, where it stands by the safety and efficacy of its product. According to them, the product, which contains beeswax and shea butter to name a few, has passed the standards of Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It has also undergone extensive testing from an independent laboratory.

The company had also announced through its blog post that it has already changed the formulations of its sunscreen, so it can resist water for 80 minutes from 40 minutes. It is also easier to apply and more lightweight.

The only active ingredient in the product is zinc oxide, which, under FDA standards, should be present in all sunscreens. This substance has the ability to speed up the recovery during burns. Most of all, it can help deflect three of the most common harmful UV rays. Based on FDA rules, sunscreen should have no more than 25% of it in the overall composition. As reported by USA Today, however, Honest might have reduced it to less than 10% from 20% to compensate for the "greasy feel."

The company shares it has already begun "reaching out" to all those who complained about the product.

Honest was co-founded by actress Jessica Alba along with Brian Lee, Christopher Gavigan, and Sean Kane. Lee currently sits as the chief executive director. It's a consumer goods company that specializes in natural, synthetic-free products. Started in 2011, it has its headquarters in Santa Monica, California. In 2014, it raised more than $65 million from venture capital and received more than $100 million in profit.
