Fans are going to see less of that Castle-Beckett team-up when "Castle" season 8 returns.
Updates confirmed that Beckett is now Captain, and along with her new assignment comes a few "shake-ups."
'"At the end of the day, we came into this season wanting to shake things up,' new co-showrunner Alexi Hawley told TVLine at ABC's Television Critics Association press tour party," TVLine reported. "'The show has been doing a great job with what's its been doing, but now we've been given an opportunity to really sort of add some energy into it.'"
"What we realized is that the best way to tell Castle's stories is to have Castle investigating twisty, fun cases. And the best way to do that is to keep Beckett in the precinct," Castle's other showrunner Terence Paul Winter meanwhile added.
While writers of the show will always center on Castle and Beckett, "Castle" season 8 will show a different chemistry between the two as they will be working less together.
"That said, promoting Beckett to captain could mean dialing down her time spent working cases firsthand, alongside Rick on the streets of New York City," TVLine added. "And that could threaten to 'shake things up' for a couple whose bond was born of the writer/muse relationship."
Meanwhile. with "Castle" season 8 renewed, other spoilers are suggesting that a new female co-star will join the hit TV show.
Show execs are reportedly looking for an African-Amercian or Hispanic actress to play the part.
"The show is casting the role of Hayley, a quick-witted, free-spirited former LAPD cop who now works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done," IBTimes reported.
"According to a report in Tvline, the new character will be spending a lot of time with the show's star, Rick Castle."
"Since Hayley is a security specialist, she might be spending a lot of time with the leading man because Rick needs protection. Given how involved in matters of national security Castle has become, fans will not be surprised if he or his wife Beckett, hires him a 24/7 security specialist."
