The highly-anticipated "Warcraft" movie may be the first of a trilogy for the franchise.

During San Diego Comic-Con, director Duncan Jones revealed that the "Warcraft" movie is nearing completion with only about 10 pending VFX shots. Several WETA-designed sculptures of the main characters in the film and the new VR experience for Android and iOS, "Warcraft: The Skies of Azeroth," were also unveiled.

According to io9, Jones also admitted that he hoped to squeeze in a passion project, sci-fi film "Mute," before the "Warcraft" movie release date on Jun. 2016. Plus, the director said that he would love to direct a sequel. He has reportedly discussed two more stories for a trilogy with Blizzard.

Character artworks for the "Warcraft" movie's leading protagonists, Durotan and Lothar, were previously unveiled at Comic-Con 2015. The orc chieftain of the Frostwolf clan is portrayed by Toby Kebbell. Human Sir Anduin Lothar, or the Lion of Azeroth, is played by Travis Fimmel.

It was previously reported that the "Warcraft" movie will start with a background on how Orcs and Humans met. "I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about 'Warcraft,'" Jones said.

The story will be told from both the perspective of the orcs who are fleeing from famine in Draenor as well as from the humans of Azaroth's side who are defending their homes from the horde.

Activision has revealed that subscriptions for "World of Warcraft" have fallen to 5.6 million. GameInformer reported that this figure stayed true to the downward trend for the title. In mid-2010, the MMO game had 12 million subscribers but has since dropped to 7.1 million in May and is continuing the drop.

Hopefully, the latest "WoW" expansion that was recently launched this Aug. 6, which was shown in a special live stream event at Gamescom 2015, would result to fans being interested in the series again.
