Some people just really don’t want to have armpit hair, and thankfully, the technology for hair removal continues to develop.

The newest technology is MiraSmooth, which permanently reduces underarm hair growth while reducing sweat-producing glands by using controlled microwave energy, according to Marie Claire.

Yes, essentially one would be “microwaving” their armpits in order to remove hair. Don’t let this alarm you because the process is reportedly safe.

“It’s the same wavelength but the delivery method, depth of penetration or range, and safety profile are totally different,” said Dr. Snehal P. Amin, a board certified dermatologic surgeon.

MiraSmooth reportedly heats up the levels under the skin where the hair roots and sweat glands are located while protecting the outer layer of the skin, according to Dr. Amin. Unlike regular lasers, MiraSmooth can be used on all skin tones, according to Buzzfeed.

The photos of the people getting the MiraSmooth treatment show them with black lines and markings on their armpits. Don’t be alarmed. Those markings are reportedly temporary marks that are meant to help guide the treatment.

Local anesthesia is reportedly used to minimize the pain of the treatment as well.

“Using this technology we’ve seen stable auxiliary hair reduction of approximately 70% regardless of color, and these results were based on a non-optimized treatment protocol,” explained Jeremy Brauer in a press release.
