In "Boruto: Naruto the Movie," Naruto seems to be a bad father.

In their review of the film, Kotaku reported that Naruto's relationship with his son caused him to become a headstrong, emotionally-damaged child. Being a workaholic, Naruto even utilized his shadow clones to help him.

Furthermore, the Hokage even sends one of his clones to attend important family events instead of personally being there. This sparks outrage in Boruto, making him feel as if he and his mother and sister are unimportant in Naruto's life.

Thus, Boruto aims to surpass his father which drove him to also use shadow clones instead of working with his teammates. It's also the reason why he sought training with Sasuke, to learn his father's weak points.

In "Boruto: Naruto the Movie," the young ninja is shown with a short temper. He abhors failure and feels that failing means that his father is right with neglecting him.

Boruto is then faced with a moral dilemma: to cheat using a device that allowed low-powered ninjas to use powerful skills to earn his father's respect or to rely on his own power and team which would most likely end in failure.

Suddenly, the story went off-track with the arrival of the film's villain. From there, the story returned its focus on Sasuke and Naruto fighting a strong enemy in a flashy fight scene. This turned the film's supposed protagonist into a mere spectator of the fight.

"More than that, many of the major themes of the film are left unresolved," Kotaku wrote. "Boruto never learns to rely on his teammates, and the ramifications of cheating are completely swept under the rug."

There may be a "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" sequel to finish and give proper closure to the film's story. It would also be interesting to see how the new generation of ninjas gain new skills.

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" was premiered in Japan on Aug. 7, 2015. It will be shown in over 80 cities in North America beginning Oct. 10. Viz Media and Eleven Arts have announced the schedule.
