With all the developments on the latest movie adaption, it seems like the "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams won't be playing Ellie in "The Last of Us" after all.
Latest news revealed details about the upcoming Naughty Dog game being adapted into a movie, "The Last of Us." Although news have been conflicting left and right, there seems to be two major speculations about the highly anticipated film.
A report by MovieNewsGuide revealed that Maisie Williams has been casted for the lead role of Ellie in "The Last of Us." While this has been corroborated with early news that the star has confirmed that she would definitely grab the opportunity to join the post-apocalyptic film, there has been no official announcement on casting matters so far.
Consequently, ScreenRant reported that with the slow development of "The Last of Us," there might be a possibility that while both producers and the "Game of Thrones" star herself have been excited by the prospect of having Maisie Williams portray the role of Ellie, the long wait could make things different.
"In between now and 'The Last of Us' start date, Williams could either lose interest in the role, or become too enmeshed with other projects to participate," the report pointed out.
"She also might be considered too grown up to play someone Ellie's age, as she's currently seventeen herself. There are no guarantees, in other words. Best not to get one's hopes up."
Ellie is among the survivors in "The Last of Us" and will be leading the movie, along with a strong and much older father figure named Joel. Together they will traverse through a world set soon after the biblical apocalyptic event known as the rapture.
Maisie Williams has been attached to "The Last of Us" movie for quite some time now. In an interview with EW, she shared details about the plans for the movie and while she has been excited to portray the role of Ellie, she doubts the progress in pre-production.
"Nothing is set in stone," Maisie Williams pointed out. "But if they wait around too much longer I'm going to be too old. So we'll see."
