The man behind "Sherlock" reveals details about the highly anticipated season 4, including possibilities of crossover with "Doctor Who" and production details to make a 2017 release date possible.

Latest news have revealed that indeed "Sherlock" season 4 is NOT cancelled, with proof from Steven Moffat himself, revealing that filming will soon take off early next year. Following the release of "Sherlock" Christmas special this December, the crew will head straight to "Sherlock" season 4 production reported Moffat.

In an interview with Collider, Steven Moffat shared the developments of "Sherlock" season 4 and said that though the script hasn't been fully developed yet, the men behind the story will be focusing on season 4 script will be on-board soon enough. "I think we're shooting next year, April-ish," shared Moffat. "Mark [Gatiss] will be starting very soon. He may have started. I've got to finish my 'Doctor Who' Christmas special, and then I'll be straight onto 'Sherlock' after that."

"We haven't started, but we've planned. We know what we're doing. Haha. Or we think we know what we think we're doing. There are a couple of things we've got lined up that are really quite strong surprises, but we'll see," added the "Sherlock" writer.

Given the April shooting date, MoviePilot has pointed out that a 2017 release date for "Sherlock" season 4 now seems more possible than ever. While there hasn't been an official release date announcement, possibly a January 2017 premiere could occur, based on the previous release dates of the last two seasons. Fans, however, have to wait for confirmation of release date news that will come shortly after the "Sherlock" Christmas special premiere this year.

Meanwhile, Steven Moffat also shared details about a possible crossover with the Peter Capaldi-led series "Doctor Who" and how it could affect "Sherlock" season 4. In the same interview, Steven Moffat finally addressed the crossover question and said, "That's a question that I get asked so often, and I can't keep answering it. It's all right for 'Doctor Who.' That's fine. But it would change Sherlock's life, if he met the Doctor and knew that time travel was possible."

"He'd have to factor that into every crime he solved. And do we really think that Sherlock Holmes lived through a Dalek invasion? I don't think he did. I think he'd have mentioned it by now. It's not going to happen. That's just the truth of it," Moffat added.
