Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus or also knows as MRSA is a very serious infection. The organism that usually thrives in our skins (Staph A.) becomes a diabolical bacterium, which eats the flesh of the skin it thrives on. It is known to be methicillin resistant, which means that no medicine that is comprised of methicillin will work on it.
Most of the times just a tiny cut or open wound would make it possible for the organism to thrive. It is unfortunate that a National Football League player has been infected by one. Daniel Fells has been in critical condition after he contracted the infection. He has been staying in the hospital for over a week now.
Supposedly he was to play with his team for a game. According to those close to him, he has undergone five operations already to stave the organism. The doctors are trying to save Fells foot, which is highly at risk given the nature of the MRSA infection.
Fells contracted the infection when he suffered a toe injury followed by an ankle injury. He was given cortisone treatment for a week for the swelling but Fells was still in ankle and foot pain. Decidedly, his wife brought him to the hospital to get checked and what the staff found out was that he was infected of MRSA, a very serious infection that has high resistance to numerous antibiotics.
The doctor's highest concern right now is saving Fells foot, not wanting to amputate the NFL's players' foot. But the infection can travel through his bones and to his blood stream, which may cause Fells' death.
"This is a serious situation that has been taken seriously from the beginning. We're all fighting for Daniel," Pat Hanlon, Giant spokesman, said. The Giants locker room has been scrub and sanitized for the safety of Fell's other team members.
