Question is, will "The Last of Us" movie screenplay arrive in time before "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams becomes too busy/old to join the cast?
There have been many speculations about the upcoming game adaptation of the apocalyptic Naughty Dog adventure game, "The Last of Us" including mainly casting and the development progress of the game. For one, MovieNewsGuide revealed that "The Last of Us" movie screenplay is currently in development by the game's developer, Naughty Dog.
Director Neil Druckmann is reportedly working on the screenplay with Naughty Dog to ensure that "The Last of Us" movie stays true to the storyline of the video game. According to the report, "co-developer Bruce Straley, and Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christopher Balestra were also working on the screenplay."
Talking to ScreenRant last year, would-be cast member Williams said, "Honestly I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also, and that's where it is at the moment."
With more than a year over for "The Last of Us" development, there's still no specific detail about where the progress is in terms of screenplay, resulting to an obvious delay in casting. "There's no script, no director, it's still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to," shared Williams.
While this statement was made more than a year ago, not much has changed and now, the growing popularity of Maisie Williams as one of the main cast members of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and a guest artist in the much-loved "Doctor Who," could be trouble for her joining the cast of "The Last of Us" movie if and when it comes.
Apart from her foreseeable hectic schedule, if "The Last of Us" movie screenplay does come in a couple of years, Maisie Williams would then be too old to portray the young heroin, Ellie. That's such a sad turnout especially since fans of "The Last of Us" have already been riled up to seeing the likes of Arya Stark on the big screen.
