Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been deemed as ultimate modern-day "supermodels."
In an article by Vogue, the publication called Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner "2015's reigning model MVPs." The terms "supermodel" and "model" have become interchangeable when, in years before, becoming a supermodel would have entailed accomplishments both in and out of the fashion industry.
"Magazine covers, ads, and space in the pop culture consciousness earned a model the title after years of hard work," the website wrote.
The likes of Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford have rightfully earned the coveted title with their body of work and impact on culture.
"If any contemporary models come close, it's Hadid and Jenner," Vogue added. "Though their careers are still relatively new, they've managed to tick several of the necessary boxes."
The BFFs have been able to walk for several designers and luxury houses. Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner were also able to collaborate with iconic photographers such as Steven Meisel, Peter Lindbergh as well as Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.
Currently, Gigi Hadid is front and center of Italian Vogue and Numero. Kendall Jenner, on the other hand, got one of the four French Vogue 95th anniversary covers along with Turlington, Moss and Gisele Bundchen.
Jenner and Hadid have beauty deals with Estee Lauder and Maybelline, respectively. They also made headlines as Victoria's Secret Angels this year. Aside from their achievements in the fashion industry, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner are also known for generating interest even while off-duty.
SCMP reported that part of Gigi Hadid's fame is due to her popularity on social media.
"Their celebrity is unquestionable, and that makes them contenders for the supermodel title-even Karlie Kloss doesn't have as much name recognition," Vogue wrote.
"Whether the heat that surrounds them now will result in the decades-spanning success enjoyed by the likes of Moss and Campbell remains to be seen, but for the moment Hadid and Jenner are the supermodel heirs apparent."
