Exiting news for fans of Hiccup and Toothless as DreamWorks Animation has announced the new release date of "How to Train Your Dragon 3" and that is on June 29, 2018.
According to Screen Rant, DreamWorks Animation will aim to release two films per year, an original movie while the other is a sequel. DreamWorks is planning to release six animation movies between 2016 and 2018 starting with "Kung Fu Panda 3," "Trolls," "Boss Baby," "The Croods 2," "Larrikins," and ending with "How to Train a Dragon 3."
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg shared his thoughts on the future of DreamWorks movies.
"The number one priority for DreamWorks Animation's core film business is to deliver consistent creative and financial success," he said. "I am confident that this strategic plan will deliver great films, better box office results, and growing profitability across our complementary businesses."
Meanwhile, director Dean DeBlois revealed some plot spoilers on "How To Train Your Dragon 3" in an interview with Collider.
"Both he and Toothless are now chiefs of their respective tribes, and it's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own," he revealed.
"We're going to take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."
DeBlois also told Collider he is working on the screenplay. He also mentioned that Villain Drago Bludvist will return and becomes "a lot more complex" as a character.
