News of David Bowie's death has shocked family, friends and fans alike but there is nothing more fulfilling than to have his latest album reach number one in the American charts, two days before his death.

According to BBC, Bowie's "Blackstar" has sold an equivalent of 181,000 albums, snagging the top spot from Adele.

In line with this, "Blackstar" is the second number one posthumous album in the U.S. since Michael Jackson's "This Is It" went number one in November 2009.

Besides "Blackstar," Davido Bowie's highest-charting US album was "The Next Day" which was number two way back 2013.

Reportedly, nineteen of David Bowie's albums have entered the U.K. charts, with the sales increasing posthumously.

Apparently, thirteen of David Bowie's songs have entered the top 100, with "Heroes" leading at number 12.

"Heroes" originally peaked at number 24 in 1977 and was joined in the top 40 by "Life On Mars," "Let's Dance," "Space Oddity" and "Starman."

In summation, David Bowie has sold 241,000 albums and 167,000 singles in just one week. His songs were also played more than 19 million times on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Purportedly, streams of David Bowie's songs leaped by 2,822% after the news of his death.

The legendary singer-songwriter is responsible for 25% of last week's Top 40. Best-sellers were his greatest hit collections "Nothing Has Changed" and "Best of 1969/1974."

Meanwhile, when Elton John heard the news of David Bowie's death, he paid a tribute to his fellow musician by playing a "hauntingly beautiful" instrumental version of "Space Oddity," as per Independent.

"The songs were very classical orientated," Elton John said. "I didn't know who I wanted to use. Then I heard a record which blew me away. It's called 'Space Oddity.'"

Apparently, Elton John had Bowie's collaborators work on his track, "Your Song."

"I have David Bowie to thank for that," Elton John enthused. "So I'd like to dedicate this to the star man himself."

In recent news, The Guardian reported that, astronomers have discovered a constellation and named it in tribute to David Bowie.
