Johnny Depp isn't Doctor Strange but his entrance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been confirmed. "The Invisible Man" movie has a new main man.
Breaking news has revealed that the Academy Award winning actor Johnny Depp has finally obliged to join the long list of Hollywood actors in the growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apart from marriage issues with Amber Heard, according to a report by Deadline, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star has said yes to taking the lead in yet again another possibly block bluster movie. "Johnny Depp has been set to star in 'The Invisible Man' for Universal Pictures," said the report.
"Part of the studio's new production initiative to reestablish the classic movie monsters that is a cornerstone legacy for the studio," it added. "The effort is being led by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who'll produce."
Way back in 2014, it was initially speculated that Johnny Depp would step in the shoes of the movie "Doctor Strange" as the lead character. A report by MTV, Marvel Studios co-president Kevin Feige revealed that while during that time, actors were still being considered for the movie, it wasn't the right time for Johnny Depp to join the Marvel family.
"We're meeting a lot of people now," shared the Marvel boss. "That article was not true about who we're meeting or what level anybody is. But we're actively looking."
"Doctor Strange would be our - well, depending on when we make it, it could be our 13th, 14th, 15th movie," Feige added. "I think if you're looking to track our decision-making and how we've done things, we have a pretty wide track record now where you can sort of see. So, no, a movie star is not required, but that doesn't mean a movie star wouldn't be great."
After Sweeney Todd, Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka, as CinemaBlend has pointed out, Johnny Depp fans thought they'd never see the actor in a role that's so mainstream. But "The Invisible Man" movie proves it's not too late for him to join in the superhero bandwagon.
Does this mean though that finally there's that possibility of having Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Depp in one superhero movie? Perhaps after "The Invisible Man"?
