Ford Announces Investment On Autonomous Cars

The Ford Motor Company, an American multinational automobile manufacturer, has been in business since the turn of the 20th century. Founded by namesake Henry Ford in 1903, the company has paved the way for other American auto brands including Dodge and General Motors. The automobile company was the first to introduce the moving assembly line that was instrumental in mass-producing automobiles including the famous Model T. At present the company has manufacturing operations worldwide including in the United States, China and South Africa.

With over a century's worth of ingenuity, it seems like Ford is not yet done providing new technologies that would revolutionize the automobile industry. Earlier this week, the company's CEO, Mark Fields, announced their intention to invest on research that would provide the latest connectivity and driver-assisted capabilities.

"We are really emphasizing our transition from an auto company to an auto and mobility company. This is a really good audience to reach some new folks" explained Mark Fields during the recent Mobile Work Congress held this year in Barcelona.

 Field explained that the company is knee deep in research in making a traffic jam assist and a fully active auto-parking system. He also claimed that fully autonomous Ford cars would be available within the next four years.

"Across the world when you see growth of these megacities, with 10 million or more folks, people want mobility solutions, they want options," detailed Field.

The Ford Motor Company is not the first automobile brand to announce suck lofty claims surrounding autonomous vehicles. Elon Musk from Tesla Motors previously explained how his company would have a version of a self-driving car by 2018. Likewise, Audi, BMW, General Motors, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Toyota, Daimler, Renault and a few more automobile companies have related their intentions to produce self-driving cars by 2020.
