According to the electronics industry on March 3, Samsung Electronics recently reported that they checked if they were able to get lithium-ion batteries supply from Murata Manufacturing (a Japanese electronics maker) for Galaxy S8.

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., with Samsung SDI, LG Chem, ATL of China, etc., is equipped with ultra-high density battery manufacturing technology applied to smart phones. Last July, Sony decided to acquire Sony Energy Device, a subsidiary of Sony and battery maker. The acquisition is expected to be completed by April.

Samsung Electronics has Samsung SDI and ATL battery in Galaxy Note 7. However, it is known that the cause of the ignition of the Galaxy Note 7 has been revealed as a battery and it has been promoted to expand the battery supplier. Initially, LG Chem has been considering receiving a battery from the company, but it is unlikely to actually apply it to the Galaxy S8.

There are also observations that Samsung Electronics will use batteries from Samsung SDI and Murata Manufacturing Co., excluding ATL, for the Galaxy S8. Samsung Electronics is making efforts to secure additional battery capacity, but it has not been decided whether to exclude ATL batteries.

A senior Samsung Electronics official said, "No decision has been made about using Japanese batteries without using ATL batteries anymore."
