If you're facing mental health challenges, your usual wardrobe can become easily associated with these emotional obstacles, dampening your mood further. Instead of sticking to the same old clothes that drag you down, we recommend changing what you wear! In fact, here's why changing what you wear can actually benefit your mental health.

You get to express your creativity

Your wardrobe is just another vehicle for your creativity. Being creative can increase positive emotions, benefitting your mental health in a variety of different ways.  By choosing new clothes, mixing-and-matching new outfits, trying unique style combinations, you really change up what you wear and therefore activate your inner positivity.

Retail therapy may be truly therapeutic

On occasion, retail therapy can be a relaxing and empowering experience. Shopping with a clear goal in mind, like the complete revamping of your wardrobe, will be even better for your mental health. You're not shopping unrestrained, without moderation, but for clothes that make you feel better - that make you feel more like you!

You boost your self-esteem

We've all heard the saying: "out with the old, in with the new." This saying actually has great value when it comes to switching up what you wear. By physically shedding your old wardrobe, you also 'get rid' of your old lack of confidence and previous emotional obstacles in the way of the new version of you. This personal re-invention can greatly boost your self-esteem, and it's always worthwhile seeing what you'd look in a different style than usual!

You can socialise outdoors

A big contributor to poor mental health is a lack of socialisation. Social connections can help reduce anxiety and stress, sleeplessness, loneliness and much more. Choosing to change what you wear means going out and doing a little shopping! Shopping outdoors gives you the chance to breath some fresh air, exposing yourself to the uplifting effect of nature and the buzz of other people. By taking yourself to the nearby shopping centre, you give yourself the invaluable opportunity to connect with others who may be like-minded, and open to forming beneficial friendships. There's no downside to changing up what you wear, as it may provoke wonderful knock-on effects like this!

Quality clothes mean a quality life

Much like T.M Lewin's shirts for men, the quality of good clothes can be distinguished from the rest by miles. They're softer, more long-lasting and an investment in such premium clothing will be reaped tenfold in the future. As a result, quality clothes mean a quality life! You feel much better and more comfortable in them, boosting your mental health.

Still, check in with a professional

Although retail therapy can be a good thing in moderation, it's always best to seek the help of a professional therapist if you're struggling with your mental health. Good counselling services are always available wherever you may be. With a fresh wardrobe, you can attend counselling with the confidence to improve your life and wellbeing!
