Eddie Redmayne took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. The 33-year-old star's acting skills were showcased when he portrayed Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."

It certainly looks like Redmayne is off to a good start this year. He got to beat out an immensely talented group of leading men to nab the Golden Globe award that he now has in his hands. Plus, he has also recently gotten married to Hannah Bagshawe, after dating each other for three years, on December 15th last year.

His Golden Globe win was not an easy feat for him. He had to go up against the likes of David Oyelowo from "Selma", Benedict Cumberbatch from "The Imitation Game", Jake Gyllenhaal from "Nightcrawler", and Steve Carrell from "Foxcatcher."

Eddie Redmayne managed to beat his fellow Brits, namely Cumberbatch and Oyelowo.

Cumberbatch portrayed the role of Alan Turing, who is a famous computing pioneer who had actually successfully broken the Enigma Code during World War II. Sadly, he was later persecuted by the British authorities merely because he was a homosexual.

In "Selma," Oyelowo played Martin Luther King, Jr., a highly celebrated US civil rights leader. The movie depicted the voting rights marches in Alabama back in 1965.

Plus, it was not just a big night for Eddie Redmayne. It was also a very special night for Amy Adams as well. The "American Hustle" actress got a Golden Globe Award for winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for the amazing acting work she had contributed to "Big Eyes."

Michael Keaton also took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for the acting skills he showcased in "Birdman."

Eddie Redmayne opened up about his experience in "The Theory of Everything," referring to it as a "huge privilege." "The Hawking family allowed us into their lives and they trusted us with their story," he shared. "And, getting to spend time with Stephen Hawking, who, despite all of the obstacles put in his way has lived passionately and fully and with great humor, was one of the great honors of my life."
