The Kobe Bryant latest news involves the Basketball superstar in a major injury which lead him to be put under surgery, and ultimately putting him away from the court for nine months.

The 36-year-old basketball player has had a successful surgery involving his right rotator cuff. The projected time for his recovery is nine months, considering everything goes well for him.

According to MSN Sports, the operation, which took two hours to finish, was performed in Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles by Doctors Neal ElAttrache and Steve Lombardo.

The LA Lakers released a statement which includes the Doctors' statements as well.

EllAttrache said, "I expect Kobe to make a full recovery, and if all goes as expected, he should be ready for the start of the season."

To add to the latest Kobe Bryant news, Lakers' General Manager Mitch Kupchak said that he doesn't think Bryant will retire anytime soon, and is expecting him to return to play on the court with the rest of his team mates come next season.

According to ESPN, Kupchak said, "I don't think he's retiring, he said he's looking forward to training camp. That's what we expect."

The General Manager also added that he expects Kobe to use the whole of nine months for his recover.

He said, "He'll be in a brace and it will be an awkward-looking brace, I think that would prevent him from doing anything for quite some time in terms of being able to use your lower body. But at some point in time, his shoulder will get to the point where he can jog and do treadmill and do things on the court. I'm not that concerned with the conditioning part of it."
