Valve will be taking part in the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC) and the main agenda of this conference is to discuss the popular graphics API, OpenGL.

With the Half Life 3 release date still up in the air, could this be the start of the project? In a report by vg247, the session, titled "glNext: The Future of High Performance Graphics," will be presented by Valve.

"Join us for the unveiling of Khronos' glNext initiative, the upcoming cross-platform graphics API designed for modern programming techniques and processors. glNext will be the singular choice for developers who demand peak performance in their applications," reads the descriptor.

"We will present a technical breakdown of the API, advanced techniques and live demos of real-world applications running on glNext drivers and hardware."

The report added that Valve helming the project is a no-brainer, given that it's one of the API's strongest promoters. After all, it's what SteamOS is based on and Valve made a bold statement where they said that the future of PC gaming is a "Windows-free, DirectX-free" one.

To add up, it is also confirmed that a large amount of Steam Machines will be present at the conference. Big revelations are expected to come for Valve's Steam Machines and PC gaming during this seminar.

GDC 2015 takes place March 2-6 in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, we have previously reported that Master Herald stated that the Swedish video game store Webhallen have some valuable information regarding Half Life 3 release date. Quoting the website:

"Half-Life 3 is still up in the air. However, Swedish Videogame Store Webhallen suggests that it might actually be true, where recently a brand new retail listing has been unveiled. According to the data provided in the barebones product page, it seems that fans may get to see a 2015 release for the PC platform."

"Webhallen is a an authority in game retailing in Sweden. As a result of which this newly released rumor could still be plausible. From 2005-2013, the entire chain was owned by Amazon itself. Till date, it consists of nine different Swedish stores along with a well-referenced online marketplace."

Although a Half-Life 3 release date this 2015 might seem unlikely since a game will take at least a year or two to get done, fans can at least be reassured that something is brewing in Valve.
