Jerry Tarkanian Dead At 84 As Colleagues Mourn His Death; What Was The Cause Of His Demise?

Recent reports over college basketball legend Jerry Tarkanian have been circulating the internet over the past few days.

The 84-year-old died recently due to an infection that caused his blood pressure to lower significantly. According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the college basketball legend was taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he was announced dead.

Recent hospitalizations caused concerns throughout fans and colleagues as he experienced a second heart attack last April of 2014, and was then admitted once again in November due to Pneumonia. 

Tarkanian, who built Nevada-Las Vegas into a national powerhouse in college basketball with an insatiable will to win, created the persona of Tark the Shark and ignited a long-running feud with the N.C.A.A. over accusations that he ran outlaw programs at three universities, died on Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was 84.

His son Danny announced Jerry Tarkarian dead via his Twitter page, writing, "Coach Tark, my father, the greatest I have ever known, passed today, to take his place in heaven. I will miss him every day of my life."

According to The New York Times, Two years before his death, Tarkanian was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame held at Springfield, Massachusets. His induction was held two months after he recovered from a heart surgery.

The source further added that the coach appeared weak when he walked on stage during the induction ceremony and  that his speech was mostly read by his wife.

Jerry was among the most successful and influential coaches in the history of college basketball. He spent 31 years as a major college coach and he was able to win more than 700 games in his career.

News about Jerry Tarkarian dead has been sending fans and colleagues into a whirlwind of emotions, and continues to mourn his death.
