George R.R. Martin has revealed that "Game of Thrones," with its upcoming season 6, has finally caught up with him.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the author did not expect HBO TV series "GoT" to catch up on the "Song of Ice and Fire" book series. "The show, of course, has caught up to me, which I didn't actually think would ever happen," he revealed during his talk at Northwestern University.

"I had such a huge lead, but the truth is, I'm a very slow writer."

It can be noted that the George R.R. Martin has been pressed by fans to finish the highly-anticipated installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire." However, the author is keeping his silence on the "Winds of Winter" release date.

"I've been hearing them come up behind me for years, and the question is, How can I make myself write faster?" he admitted. "I think, by now, the answer is, I can't. I write at the pace I write, and what the show is doing is not going to change what the books are."

Martin did tease fans to brace themselves for the "Game of Thrones" finale. "I think you need to have some hope," he added. "We all yearn for happy endings in a sense. Myself, I'm attracted to the bittersweet ending."

"People ask me how 'Game of Thrones' is gonna end, and I'm not gonna tell them... but I always say to expect something bittersweet in the end. You can't just fulfill a quest and then pretend life is perfect."

It was previously reported that George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date may happen before the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" begins. "GoT" season six is said to commence on Apr. 3, 2016.

It was also said that "Game of Thrones" season 6 may be delayed due to another HBO TV series entitled "Vinyl." George R.R. Martin's "GoT" season 6 may not premiere until May 1.
