"Dark Souls 2" has soared in popularity and has been sold for over 2.5 million copies since its initial release last year.

Bandai Namco announced during the Global Gamers Day event that the game has been successful since its official launch in 2014. The sales of the updated version "Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin" were taken into account. It was released earlier this month and is a compilation of the original game along with its downloadable content and patches.

"We wanted to give the fans an opportunity to participate again, this time in an even deeper experience in the Dark Souls II universe. With that goal in mind, in Scholar of the First Sin, we created not just a mere all-in-one package, but a completely new Dark Souls II experience," Bandai Namco wrote.

The developers have confirmed that they will be pushing a version and calibrations update in the coming weeks to make a few gameplay enhancements. Several upcoming changes for the different consoles (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Steam (DirectX 9), Steam (DirectX 11)) will be implemented.

"Dark Souls 2" PC version owners will be getting a discount when buying "Scholar of the First Sin." Fans who buy the recent game on the PS4 or Xbox One will pay $59.99. For the DirectX11 version, it will cost $49.99.

However, for people who already own the original game, the price will be dropped down to $29.99. Furthermore, it will only cost $20 if players buy the game as well as all of the DLC.

"Unlike many 'Game of the Year' or 'Plus' versions of games, though, 'Scholar of the First Sin' will actually be changing the gameplay experience of 'Dark Souls II,' not just giving the game a graphical facelift," Cinema Blend reported.

"While the visuals and sound will certainly receive their requisite enhancements, the new version of the punishing action game will boast new enemy placement, map shortcuts and gameplay design. New weapons and armor will also be added, as well as the ability for NPCs to occasionally invade your world."
