The "Legend of Zelda" Wii U may not be released next year.

According to VG247, Nintendo's financial report has detailed the video game company's release schedules. Surprisingly, the release date for "Zelda" Wii U was listed as TBD along with "Project Giant Robot."

Although this neither confirms nor denies that "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U has been delayed, there are speculations that the game is pushed into a 2017 release or later. It was also rumored that producer Eiji Aonuma and his team may be planning to publish it for Nintendo NX instead of Wii U.

The game was announced at E3 2014 but there hasn't been a lot of details for "Zelda" Wii U. Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt admitted that the game currently being developed for a new gameplay experience.

"We confirmed that a 'Zelda' game, a new 'Zelda' experience is in development for the Wii U and we have our team hard at work on that," Moffitt told iDigitalTimes. "We want that to be the best Zelda experience. Fans have been waiting for and deserve a game when it's ready, when it's fully featured and when it can live up to what we would like to deliver."

Nintendo previously released a statement regarding the "Zelda" Wii U release date saying that the game will no longer be launched this year. "Rather than sticking to a specific schedule, the team wants to make this the most complete and the best game it can possibly be," the video game company stated.

"The new launch timing has not yet been determined. Because we'd like to focus on developing the game, we aren't planning on showing it at this year's E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we're ready to share more specifics."

Aonuma also revealed that a Wii U version of the game is not their top priority for them as of the moment. The team reportedly discovered a lot of new possibilities for the game which, in turn, forced them to reconsider their timeline and priorities.
