A Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder reunion in "The Vampire Diaries" seems highly unlikely now.
Last September, The former "Vampire Diaries" actress confirmed that she will not be appearing in the upcoming season of the show. "I can't wait to see what the new season will look like," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"I'll be watching. I'm very excited for my friends... That chapter is closed, sadly - bittersweet."
The 26-year-old actress announced that she was leaving the series last April. "I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," she wrote on Instagram.
There were a lot of speculations regarding a Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder "TVD" reunion. Co-star Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore in the series, revealed that Elena Gilbert is still an important character in the story.
"Elena's still a very big part of the story," Wesley admitted. "Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up."
Nikki Reed was said to have worried that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may rekindle their romance if the actress will come back to "The Vampire Diaries." The actor teased that Elena was very much alive during Comic-Con 2015.
"She's still there, dude," Somerhalder said. "She's in a casket; she's having a nap."
Nina Dobrev seems to be successful in moving on and away from "TVD." She recently appeared in horror comedy "The Final Girls" and will be in 2016 drama "Arrivals."
In Style reported that the former "TVD" actress is preparing herself for another role. This time, she will need to revamp her image for the character.
"I'm going to be cutting my hair for my next role," she told the publication. "I'm doing a movie that I haven't announced yet, so I can't talk about it, but we're going to be cutting my hair for that."
