A Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder reunion in "The Vampire Diaries" seems impossible now that a new opportunity has opened up for the actress.

It was previously reported that Nina Dobrev confirmed that she will not be appearing in the upcoming season of the show. "I can't wait to see what the new season will look like," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"I'll be watching. I'm very excited for my friends... That chapter is closed, sadly - bittersweet."

Dobrev left the series last April, saying that she knew that Elena's story would be a six season adventure. However, co-stars Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder have teased that her character, Elena Gilbert, is still alive in the show.

Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev's ex-boyfriend, even said that the decision to keep Dobrev's character was intended to open opportunities for the actress to come back to the show.

However, a new opportunity has opened up for the 26-year-old actress. According to Deadline, Dobrev is being eyed for the female lead of Paramount Pictures' "Baywatch" movie.

Other actresses shortlisted for the role are "San Andreas" star Alexandra Daddario, "Pretty Little Liars" actress Ashley Benson, "X-Men Apocalypse's" Alexandra Shipp, "Teen Wolf's" Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos from "The Duff," and Denyse Tontz from "Big Time Rush."

Seth Gordon is said to be directing the "Baywatch" movie while Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron will play the male leads. Mirror reported that Johnson will portray the role of the lifeguard who has no choice but to work with a young lifeguard (Efron).

Furthermore, they will need to work together to protect the beaches of California from environmental destruction caused by an oil tycoon.

Nina Dobrev recently appeared in horror comedy "The Finals Girls" and has been casted for 2016 drama "Arrivals." Moreover, the former "TVD" actress is preparing herself for another role.

"I'm going to be cutting my hair for my next role," she told In Style. "I'm doing a movie that I haven't announced yet, so I can't talk about it, but we're going to be cutting my hair for that."
